| Close readers of this newsletter have probably picked up on FRESH's involvement in the growing Community Land Trust in New London and the wider region. We became involved to help secure and preserve green and growing space in our small community and because we believe that safe, affordable housing is a right.
Alicia and Frida both chose to buy homes close to FRESH's Urban Farm at the corner of Williams and Mercer and are reaping benefits as homeowners and community members. As an organization, we see how affordable, stable housing can give community members the gift of time to participate in and contribute to civic life!
FRESH staff and members are proud to have participated in the standing up of the SE Community Land Trust board in June 2019 and in convening the local chapter to carry on the work in New London, where the home ownership rate languishes as just 34%.
We are so pleased to announce that the CLT's first home (a two family built in 1870) is now for sale, at a very affordable price.
