One of
the productivity apps I discovered 70 weeks ago (yes I know the exact
date I started) saves me on average 8 to 14 hours a week. So if THAT piques your interest, keep on
reading!
This
productivity app currently saves me 8 to 14 hours every week. That’s a
minimum of one whole work day every week.
I can use my saved time to take
some time off and read a fiction book or can work on a project I never
"used to" have the time for.
When I
first started with TextExpander I was skeptical. Thank goodness for their 30
day free trial. By the time 30 days
ended I was already saving 4 hours a week.
Since
many of you are authors I’ll use an example that you may relate to.
I read a
lot of British Detective novel series
and in many of the books, the authors continually use the name of the detective
along with their full rank. For example Detective
Chief Inspector Johnathan Holman.
Now I know that most of you would (hopefully) be using a series of initials while writing
(ie dcijh) and then use the
search and replace function in your word processor.
There is a BETTER, faster and easier way.
With Text Expander you can create a “snippet” of 3 or 4 symbols and
letters. For example — .jhd
(that’s a period before the jhd.
And instantly the whole name pops up >>> Detective Chief Inspector Johnathan Holman. Some of the British writers also use the
first name which would look like .j or
the first and last name
.jh
How easy is that, especially when you have a full cast of characters, all with
their own rank names.
I
recently read an entire 12 book series
where the full rank and full name of EACH of the force members were constantly
used.
If you
only use TextExpander for your books you’d be saving a huge amount of
time.
HOWEVER, you can also use it to shorten the
name of your books, your Amazon links, your book blurbs, your email address, your website name,
your mailing address and more.
With
TextExpander you can write an entire “boiler plate” letter of inquiry to
potential reviewers. Use 3 - 5 letters and TextExpander will pop the entire letter into your email program.
So far I
have over 350 “snippets” programmed into my system and I am constantly refining
them and adding to my list. Some of my
snippets are short and easy: .mr turns into https://melanierockett.com
Some of my other snippets literally are a full page of content and information … or a list of 20+ website links.
Just the
other day I realized that I constantly typed out my
phone number in various sign-up forms.
How many thousands of times have I done that. Now three keystrokes can save me a minute of time including typing out the number and then checking to make sure the number is typed correctly.
My target
for the end of this year is to save 16 hours
(2 full 8-hour days) a week using TextExpander.
If you
are wondering how I know how much time I
am saving, TextExpander sends me an email every week letting me know exactlyhow much
time I have saved, and how many snippets I used. LOL
this is one email I take time to read each week!
So how
much does this AMAZING app cost?
$40.00
USD per year for a personal account.
What’s
one hour of YOUR time worth?
Last year
I saved over 364 hours! That’s forty-five 8-hour days.
PS I’ve
spent countless hours (some of the saved ones) refining my system so it is easy
to implement and easy to remember. I’m
planning on creating a simple How-To Use
TextExpander course that will get students up to speed fast! I’d love to know IF anyone is interested
before I invest my time. Send me a
YES or a NO vote. Thanks for YOUR time.
