Seasonal Events To Promote Your Books?

I’ve been seeing a few ads with the ubiquitous green shamrock ... which means St. Patricks’s Day is around the corner.

This served to remind me that Easter is also about to happen.

Are YOU prepared to take advantage of these two seasonal events to promote your books?

Here are a few ideas to get your creative marketing juices flowing.

St. Patrick’s Day is on March 17th.

It’s a one day event … so if you have something “Irish” to promote start now.

St. Patrick, is the patron saint of Ireland. The celebration has turned into a celebration of everything GREEN and everything involving the Irish culture. You will see parades, be encouraged to eat special foods, dance to lilting music, and drink loads of green alcohol.

So what kinds of books should you promote? ANYTHING with an Irish theme or location. This could include any genre titles including mysteries and romances as well as non-fiction books including travelogues, cookbooks and information about St. Patrick. For the kids … activity and coloring books.

EASTER is a Christian Celebration.

It depends on what particular denomination you belong to as to how important the celebration is. Catholics take Easter very seriously, Protestants less so and then there are those who show up at church maybe twice a year … and those who only think about it.

BUT the fact is that the EASTER celebration has already started.

Though Easter Sunday falls on April 17th this year (the dates change wildly every year) … for those who celebrate LENT it started on March 2nd and ends on April 14.

To put it simply, Lent is 40 days of “preparation” for Easter. For some people this means fasting, for many it means giving UP something important to them … which could mean no television for 40 days or no computer games.

If you have any Christian focused books, right now is a good time to promote them. Of special significance would be ANYTHING related to Easter including devotionals, meditations, prayers, history, and children’s Easter books. Then there are the genre books that somehow connect to Easter.

And let’s not forget the “commercial” aspects of Easter, including bunnies, chicks, eggs, daffodils and anything with chocolate in it.

If you don’t have anything that even comes near to St. Patrick’s Day or Easter don’t forget that in many parts of the country it is now:

SPRING.

That means planning your garden, planting seedlings, garden prep and gardening.  Since the list for this can go on and on,  I will just stop here.

BOTTOM LINE? Get your marketing hat on and start promoting your books!
