Jumping from a full-time job to starting my own business is one of the most thrilling things I've ever done.
Believe me when I say that it wasn't an easy jump; there were times when I desperately clung to the edge, trying to persuade myself out of making major and unsettling changes.
There have been many setbacks along the way, but I couldn't imagine doing anything else...
This past weekend gave me the opportunity to reflect on a number of those lessons and how they have influenced my future decisions:
1. I realized that no matter how enthusiastic I am about my business, true results require a planned and executable plan. When you're in the midst of it all, juggling and doing everything, it's easy to forget this.
2. I learned that no matter how unsure, overwhelmed, or frightened I am about taking risks, there are always healthy and uplifting ways to get through them. My problems are never as 'large' or 'loud' as I imagine them to be in my head.
3. I realized that one of the most valuable assets in business is contacts. I've had numerous opportunities to collaborate, learn, and grow as a result of my connections.
4. Finally, I've discovered that it's all about giving back in business. It's the simple things that matter to so many people, and I try to remember that I'm here first and foremost to help others.
When I consider what I've learned and the great connections I've made, I feel a little emotional.
