But I’ve been stuck for the last few months – don’t get me wrong – I still know where I’m going (although the Universe does take me on some twisty paths) but I’m so committed to living life in the flow – to only doing what I feel called to, and creating what I feel called to create, and there’s SO much I want to share that sometimes it overwhelms me and I can’t even get started.
This happens often when we want to change stuff too – there’s so much info out there that we just go into overwhelm.
Years ago, on one of my adventures, I spent a few months looking after a small boy, the youngest son of a English woman and a Spanish father. They lived in Spain, spoke English at home, but when the father’s family visited it was all Spanish. Plus, the nannies up until that point had been Spanish. When I helped out, he was nearly three and he hadn’t spoken a word yet. Not even mama or dada or any simple word like that. Six months later I left and he still wasn’t speaking.
But one day, he just started to speak! And then they couldn’t shut him up - he was fluent in both English and Spanish. His brain had been trying to work out two different languages, it needed time to assimilate all the info and organise it in the right way before he could use the information he was receiving. This is how the universe works – sometimes it feels like either we’re walking through treacle and getting nowhere, stuck in overwhelm and we don’t know what to do first, OR our lives seem to be at a dead end – nothing is happening no matter what dreams we have of adventure.
In all these cases, if we just relax, and move forward when the next step appears, at some point, when the time is right, things start to make sense and move forward. But we need to give it that time. It could be the timing’s not right just now.
One problem is we expect immediate results… Scott Pape (an Australian personal finance guru) talks about an apple tree. You don’t plant it and expect to get fruit next week. You don’t uproot it two weeks later and move it to a sunnier spot, or sit up all night worrying that it’s getting too much rain, or not enough sun. You just leave it alone.
In a year or two you get some small sour fruit… in a few years you get some apples from it. In many years, you have a big tree that gives you shade and you can feed your whole family from the apples it provides… Life is like that too… things do take time, the key is to have fun on the journey.
You see, there are times when there’s a natural lull in your life and you need to just let it be what it is. I call it being in the void – things aren’t ready for you to do what it is you want to, to launch your business, start a new job, go on your next adventure. There are still things you need to learn and there are still outside situations that need to fall into place.
Bottom line – it can be so flippin’ frustrating and we feel like we’re wasting time. But what I’m beginning to realise is that those times are the Universe saying – hey, take a weight off, have some fun, relax…. We just need some time to get everything in place, so why not just chill for a bit?
But we don’t do we? I didn’t – and I’m the #%@*$! flow queen! I pushed and shoved and felt bad and then, worst of all, started thinking – time is running out, I need to get this done – what is wrong with me??!!!
Aaah well – the beauty of all this is I can tell you about it and maybe you can use it in your life somewhere right now.
In the meantime – I’m all inspired now, because I finally got the breakthrough, so I’m itching to start creating my new free guide. I’m going to go and do that now – and as soon as it’s ready – don’t worry, it will turn up in your inbox :)
