Years ago…

After blogging for a while.


I was getting better at it. My posts started to get a few visitors…


I knew, very early, that I needed to start capturing those people into an email list.


Everyone was talking about it back in 2016…


I just couldn’t get anyone to subscribe to mine.


One of my first lead magnets took me 5 months to create.

And it got me 6 subscribers in the next couple of months.


Then, one of my posts went viral and started getting 1,000 views every day.


I should be delighted, but I couldn’t…


All I could see was people coming, reading the post, and leaving.


No one wanted my 5-month-work-freebie!


I went into research mode. I needed to understand what was happening.

My brain almost melted from the number of blog posts I read.


But none had the answer…


I was about to give up when I finally asked myself:

  • “Why are they reading this post?”

  • “Why is it so successful?”


And everything clicked.

My lead magnet was not aligned with their journey.


It didn’t make sense to them.

  • The post was a method of showering with a baby.

  • The lead magnet a cheatsheet about baby ailments.


So I thought…


Who’s reading this?

  • “Overwhelmed mothers whose babies don’t like baths.”

Would a video of this method be helpful to them?


  1. I jumped in the shower and recorded myself with my baby daughter.

  2. Uploaded the video.

  3. Placed a link to a page with it at the beginning and end of the post.

(They had to subscribe to watch the video)


And…


My email list started growing like crazy!


You see, Friend,

it’s not so much about what you’re giving out,

but it’s alignment with the prospect’s journey.


→ Alignment with the content their consuming will get you subscribers.

→ Alignment with your product or service will get you leads.


If you can hit both of these simultaneously,

you will have decoded the magic formula to attracting leads from your content.



Since then, I’ve created more lead magnets than I can count…


Both for myself and my clients.


And those systems (lead magnets, email sequences, etc.)

generate automated leads and sales.
