Subject: “Give a Little Whistle”

October 11, 2023

Dear Friends,

A large group of crickets is gathering outside our front door to audition for the role of Jiminy Cricket. It’s that season of the year when masses of talented crickets attend with hopes of becoming cricket of the year by offering the perfect performance as a Jiminy Cricket impersonator.  Cords of their songs can be heard throughout the night:

“When You Wish Upon a Star”

“Give a Little Whistle”

The winning cricket must not only have the right Jiminy Cricket voice, he must also hold to the Jiminy philosophy and ideals.  He must believe that wishing on a star will make all a person’s dreams come true, and that any of life’s problems can be effectively dealt with simply by giving a little whistle.  He must be capable of offering sound advice unasked.  He must present himself in stylish dress including a top hat, and always carry an umbrella regardless of the weather.  He is expected to be enamored of encyclopedias and to encourage others to be the same.

While many crickets are hopeful, very few can genuinely pull this off.  The front door outside of Fox Country Quilts is where the new arrivals line up, and they pop up like popcorn when a person walks out the door.  Our kitchen is staging ground for many of the crickets, especially the baby or teen crickets who have squeaked through the tiny holes in our exterior, and are exceptionally eager to do their audition.  Donna is having a hard time being impressed with them, because their crooning . . . especially if they make it into our bedroom . . . keeps her awake at night.

Anyway, we deeply appreciate their efforts, but hope their auditions will soon be over.  Seven ladies are currently staying in our retreat right now, invited to be cricket judges.  Hopefully they are able to sleep O.K.

Call to action for this e-mail: The crickets could be leaving any time, so be sure to visit Fox Country Quilts ASAP so you won’t miss out on their wonderful auditions.
