Annual Campaign to support first-of-its-kind ALEX Simulation Manikin

Each year the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation engages area community members to raise dollars for a project that will enhance healthcare provided at Spencer Hospital.

This year donations to the annual campaign will assist in purchasing both an adult and pediatric high fidelity simulation manikin.

Unlike a typical manikin, ALEX will integrate speech recognition and response (think Apple Siri or Amazon Echo) into a realistic patient care experience.

IRA Rollover can reduce tax load

Did you know that you can support local healthcare and reduce your taxes by making a charitable gift from your IRA? 

Individuals 70 1/2 and older can transfer up to $100,000 of IRA assets to the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation without being subject to federal income taxes on the distribution. The Iowa legislature will make its determination in early 2018 regarding the gift being subject to state income taxes. If approved, the determination would be retroactive for the 2017 tax year.

Music & Massage Therapy Benefits Hospice Patients

Hospice of Spencer Hospital recently introduced music therapy to the growing list of services available for patients which also includes massage therapy.

“Both music and massage therapy provide comfort, relaxation and focus away from discomfort,” explains Colleen Paulsen, Home Health and Hospice director. 

Pictured above, Robin Keith provides music therapy to patients in their homes, care facilities or hospital. Design Masters provides massage therapy services.

The Foundation is proud to use donor dollars to support these efforts. 

Hospice of Spencer Hospital treats people wherever they need care – in home, in a care facility, or within the hospital.  
Surgical Table

Foundation dollars have recently helped to support the purchase of a Steris OT1200 surgical table, which helps with positioning for patients undergoing hip replacement.

"The updated surgical table has made a significant difference for our orthopedic surgeons because it allows them to perform the direct anterior hip replacement surgery through a smaller incision, and without disrupting as much tissue when compared to a traditional hip replacement," explains Matt Cooper, director of surgery. "This means that the patient has a quicker recovery and can resume their daily activities earlier.”
