Hidden Treasures, Secrets & Discoveries
God, why haven’t You blessed me like them?
It was a candid, public broadcast in which a mom and her adult daughters were discussing effective techniques to get their kids on board with family work. The mom offered this trick: Hide small stashes of hard cash for kids to stumble upon as an instant reward for timely obedience to chores.
“What a great idea!," one of her adult daughters responded. Then, turning to her mom, she asked, "Mom... why didn’t you hide money for us when we were little, so we could find it when we did our chores?”
Her mom responded with a smile, saying, "Honey, I did. I hid many gifts for you. You just never found what I had set out for you to find."

| | If we flipped the script, our hearts have probably asked some version of, "God, why haven’t You blessed me the same way You bless others?"
May we have the courage to ask Him, 'Where have you offered blessings which I've completely missed?'
There's no question, God is waiting on us. He deeply desires to lavish us with unique, abundant gifts - right now. So, IF He's hidden tons of treasures for us to discover, THEN why aren't we discovering more? Here's a few possibilities:We Don’t believe He's a Treasure-Hiding Dad.Jesus intrigues us with stories of treasure hidden in fields & stories of pearl buyers finding world-class, epic treasures. As thrilling as it is to find Easter eggs, the one hiding them gets greater joy in watching them be discovered. We become better treasure seekers when we believe He's that kind of Father. |
| Powerful ways to open ourselves up to divine opportunity is to ‘enter by the gate’ and ‘take the low seat at the table.’ The mom mentioned (above) wanted to bless her kids. But, she wisely buried the blessing to be uncovered by an act of simple obedience. The Biblical narrative affirms that when we simply do what's right, we'll uncover unexpected gifts, hidden inside the fabric of creation.“What’s That Look Like?”
A leader had one vacant job position which he needed to fill. So, he invented an 'easter egg' interview approach: While chatting with each interviewee during the initial phone interview, he nonchalantly referred to his struggle in finding an 8' eggplant. Only ONE interviewee showed up to the in-person interview with an 8' egg plant - and got the job. Is that fair? What if God has hidden gold in unsuspecting spaces for you and I to find?
