Finding Our ‘Wood Between the Worlds’
In his book, The Magician’s Nephew, CS Lewis describes the ‘Wood Between the Worlds’ - a rich, sacred place where thousands of shallow pools work as doors to other worlds. A few seconds walk from one pool to another instantaneously sent a traveler to another world.
Stepping through a specific gate at an international airport concourse might deliver a passenger to a remote continent. Doors which lead to far-flung South, East, West or North might only be a few yards apart. High, frozen mountains are though one gate while the next portal down delivers travelers to sun-bathed beaches. There are many more ‘paths to more’ than we know. Trusting God with our full obedience activates a movement from one world/land to another.
My small family recently opened up a new trail through ~1/2 mile of jungle brush beside the Green River. We dove into forbidding spaces choked with vines, 10,000 briars, dead trees and dense undergrowth. Our path took shape as we pressed ahead. One, slow, liner foot at a time, a road emerged out of an ugly mess. A way was made where there’d been no way. Today, a narrow strip of land between field and river is a path a fresh of discovery and recreation.
Gates of breakthrough await our yes. How do we become the men who recognize and bring things to fruition? Our Father may lead us into untamed spaces to train our hands for war and victory. He invites us into our own journey of refinement by subduing tangled or under-claimed spaces. Giving our YES to our Father’s invitations is how we become more of the men were meant to be. Like the pools in the Wood Between the Worlds, our Father’s invitations are like doors into the journey of becoming more of the men we’re meant to be.

“There are thousands of practical ways to re-take overlooked territory which has been deeded to us.”
| Some recently discovered unclaimed spaces: Reading family devos out-loud at breakfast; Praying out loud and encouraging kids on commutes and/or at bedtimes; Praying The Daily Prayer; Using the Wild At Heart Pause App; Fasting; Getting up earlier.
Lately, we’ve been repenting of allowing too many spaces to be filled up with ‘devices’ – shows, podcasts, secular videos, games, etc. There are thousands of practical ways to re-take overlooked territory which has been deeded to us. [Note: Fruitful spaces are often hidden, thin, camouflaged &/or easily overlooked]. Many have discovered that their early mornings are largely unclaimed.
Jesus reminds us that our degree of faithfulness in little things reveals whether or not we’re ready for more, (Matt 25). Want MORE from God? –> Let’s bring our strength into unsubdued spaces - claiming them for His Kingdom.
