Middle River Cleanup Week! Sign up to Clean Up!
What is "Legacy Trash"? Legacy trash is the sum total of trash that has accumulated in the river over many years. We are chipping away at it a little each year on Middle River. Sure, more goes in, but every year we make a little more progress. And we are fortunate that our waters don't look like this:
|
|
|
This year, we have the ambitious goal of forming 13 teams to clean 13 different reaches of Middle River. Teams will paddle, wade and haul trash on a variety of days and times during the week
of August 13-19 depending on folks' availability.
(If the water is too high for safe work that week, we will fall back to the week of Aug. 20-26th). If you volunteer, you can anticipate approximately 2-3 hours of working time on the water with your team.
Will you help? Sign up HERE!
Yep, it is work, but you get to get a little bit wet and earn that great feeling of satisfaction at the end!

Aquatic Insect ID App
Did you know that The Izaak Walton League of America has an app for your smartphone for benthic monitors to use in the field?
Especially for new stream monitors, the Aqua Bugs app is a great tool. This app uses a dichotomous key – a tool that provides a series of
choices that will lead to correct identification of each
macroinvertebrate.
It’s simple to use – and it’s free. Once you open the Aqua Bugs app,
you can start the identification process based on a macroinvertebrate’s
legs, tails, or overall body shape, using illustrations to guide you
through the choices. Check it out! |
