22, 2017. The Alliance
for the Conservation of Great Apes in Central Africa(GSAC Alliance) " has officially joined the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). As part of the
accession process, Alliance
GSAC submitted the required documents and agreed to
abide by the CBFP members’ cooperation framework in promoting sustainable
management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa.

Experts in participatory forestry came
together in a meeting last September in Brazzaville. The meeting came up
with a proposed roadmap highlighting priorities to be considered in
enhancing participatory forestry in Central Africa.
|
|
The extensive report, entitled The
Human Cost of Conservation in Republic of Congo: Conkouati-Douli and
Nouabalé-Ndoki National Parks and their Impact on the Rights and
Livelihoods of Forest Communities, finds
that communities living in and around the two parks are subjected to
heavy-handed policing by eco-guards, often resulting in serious harm and
even death.

As part of implementation of its road
map, the Sub-Working Group on Protected Areas and Wildlife in Central
Africa (SGTAPFS) held its seventh meeting from 4 to 8 December 2017 in
Libreville, Gabon. |

4,5 December 2017: The Validation
workshop of COMIFAC sub-regional strategy for gender mainstreaming into
sustainable management of natural resources in the Congo Basin took
place in Libreville, Gabon, from 4 to 5 December 2017.

Lessons learned from GEF 6 on placing
emphasis on Central Africa could enrich the discussions. By way of
reminder, GEF 6 received pledges from contributors / "donors" amounting
to USD 4.43 billion. |
| Washington, D.C. (December 15, 2017) — In a move demonstrating its
continued commitment to support the Adaptation Fund’s work in funding
concrete projects that help the most vulnerable communities in
developing countries adapt to climate change, the Brussels-Capital
Region of Belgium has pledged a new commitment to the Fund of more than
EUR 600,000 for 2017.

Parks, which takes over national parks and gives rangers military-style
training to take on poachers and protect wildlife. The BBC visited one
of the parks it manages, at Zakouma in Chad.

The Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) is taking place in Bonn, Germany from
19-20 December, 2017. The Forum, a multi-stakeholder platform on
sustainable land use, gathers a wide range of like-minded partners
working on the landscape and forest restoration agenda including, among
others, the World Bank, UN Environment, CIFOR, World Resources Institute
(WRI), the Global Environment Facility, and supported by the German
Government.

The report, which was presented in the context of the 5th AU-EU Summit
in Abidjan, draws upon over 30 years of JRC's work in Africa and focuses
on challenges and opportunities, structured along four pillars of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): People, Planet, Peace and
Prosperity.

participated in Ghana in a high level advocacy with parliamentarians and
Ministers from member States of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA). IUCN
is supporting NBA, through PAGE as part of the partnership agreement,
for sensitisation of water stakeholders, and particularly
parliamentarians and responsible Ministers on the Niger Basin's Water
Charter.
