Giving Thanks - To Our Supporters, Donors, and Volunteers!
At FFGW, we're thankful all year for the wonderful folks who keep this operation running, the ones who donate hard-earned money to offset our costs (adoption fees cover only a fraction of our major expense - veterinary fees) and the ones who donate their precious time to all the tasks that are necessary to transform a shelter cat to a cherished companion, from working with shelters to arrange release of at-risk cats and kittens through transport to the Nova area, coordinating care for their medical needs, fostering and socializing and teaching the shy ones how to "cat"...

...as an all-volunteer operation, there would BE no operation, without our volunteers!

And so, as the holiday season begins with Thanksgiving, we especially want to say "thanks" to all of you for all that you've done...

...and we want to call out for special thanks a team that you might not think of when you think about what it takes to move a cat along that journey to a forever home.  Special thanks go to the dedicated team that cares for the cats in residence at the Leesburg PetSmart, where cats have a chance to be seen and to find homes not just at our weekly adoption events but all week long. The caretakers for the cats at PetSmart prepare the cages for new comers, making sure that there are plenty of cozy blankets, tasty food, and other necessities (like fun toys!).  The caretakers closely watch the cats to make sure that they adapt to the environment, and let them out of their cages multiple times a day to play and exercise.  We like to think of our caretakers at the adoption center as starting to give new kitties the love and attention that they'll find in forever homes, something that they may not have had in a shelter environment...
The store staff at PetSmart can provide basic care, but we want our new intakes to experience so much more... because it's not just another cage at PetSmart, it's a first step to love!

We currently need more caretakers!

It's a fun, and extermely rewarding way to rescue, if you can't foster - or even if you can!
If you can commit to a regular weekly shift of about an hour to care for the cats at the Leesburg PetSmart, please respond to this newsletter or email directly brittany@ffgw.org

Misty pressed her pink nose to the bars of her cell, and wondered how her life had taken such a turn.  The cold metal smelled antiseptic, sterile, and not at all like her home in the field.  It wasn't her fault, she thought, having fallen in with a bad crowd of kittens, and when they all went into that trap she couldn't exactly leave her brother Mouse behind... besides, there had been yummy food in the trap, and she had been hungry.  And now... here she was, in prison.  One of the other cats who had been here longer told her about something called "parole" - where these nice people came into the jail and let kittens out to play, straghtened up their cells and sometimes even played with them - and gave them treats!  Misty hoped that would happen today...
But it was Monday, and unfortunately for Misty, there were no parole officers volunteers on Monday nights... the PetSmart jailer simply dropped some food in a metal bowl and moved on.

Can you be a parole officer volunteer and help Misty and Mouse, and so many like them?  Please be a caretaker at PetSmart and brighten the days of cats and kittens on their way to forever homes.

For Details & To Sign Up
The Combined Federal Campaign is an effort through the United Way for Federal Employees to participate in charitable giving. Under the auspices of the program, employees can select from a wide array of charities for giving.

In past years, a dedicated crew of volunteers has attended events at area Federal agencies, and spoke about FFGW. This year, some charity events will be virtual, others in person.

We need your help with two things:

Speakers!
People who can participate in the in-person or virtual events and talk about FFGW, our program, and how important giving through the CFC is to our mission.

A Videographer!
We have the opportunity to have a one-minute video uploaded to the CFC website, so that people can hear about us even outside of these virtual events. If you have some video skills, and can help us put together some video that we already have, a voice over that we'll write, and compliant captioning, we would absolutely love the help!

If you can help with either of these things, just reply to this newsletter.

Also, this month, we ask that if you are a federal employee, you list FFGW as a recipient in your agency’s CFC/United Way campaign:

 (CFC#26212; United Way #8911).
Featured Cat:  Kelsey
November is Adopt a Senior Month!

Kelsey is a purring machine who loves to spend time with people, getting pets and being admired. If she feels like you haven't done enough petting, she will gently pat at your hand with a closed paw to let you know that she wants more loving.

Kelsey came to Feline Foundation after her owner died unexpectedly and she was left in his home alone and rarely fed by a family member for four months. When it came time to sell the home, the realtor called Feline Foundation and asked us to come and get her.

Like a distinguished lady of a certain age, Kelsey gets a little medicine for her arthritis (an injection just every few months) and doesn't have all the teeth she was born with ;)  She loves to nap, but isn't a stone - ev
ery once in a while she'll get the zoomies or get interested in the laser pointer, which is very adorable.  .

Despite her rough year, she seems to love everyone she meets. Could Kelsey be the right companion for you?

Please submit an application - or tell your friends about Kelsey today!

We try not to overflow your email inbox, and most months send just one Newsletter with a deep dive into all that's going on at FFGW, and some fun cat-centric stuff - but you can find out all the rescue happenings closer to real time on our social media!

Shop & Rescue!

You can shop and also help FFGW at the same time, by making your Amazon purchases through our "smile" link!

Use the button on the left for anything Amazon, select the Feline Foundation of Greater Washington as your designated charity. Your price doesn't change but a percentage of your purchase goes to FFGW!

In 2021 we received over $1000 through the Smile program, which donations were enough to provide 3-4 spays or 5-6 neuters - for an entire litter of kittens!

 Thank you!

I Feel Like Something Chewy!

Actually, not that chewy, but "Chewy"!

www.chewy.com is a pet product company specializing in home delivery of all things pet-related.
FFGW has a "wish list"  which you can find here:

Any products you select from our wish list will be delivered directly to us for use at our adoption center at PetSmart and by our fosters!

If you're new to Chewy, we'll even get a gift certificate for bringing in a new purchaser.
It's a great way to help us in our mission to help the kitties!

Thanks to everyone who has donated food, treats, litter, beds, toys...  Chewy's platform doesn't allow us to see the names of our generous donors, but please know that your support is very much appreciated!  And if you drop us a line and let us know when you donate something, we'll be more than happy to send our thanks!
