Thank You!
Thank You Very Much!

A half-dozen years ago, just before Thanksgiving as the legend is told, an FFGW kitty named Elvis, upon finding out he was adopted into a forever home, actually stood up and uttered his namesake's trademark phrase!

Our year-end letter will soon start showing up in your mailboxes, and tells all about a special pair of kitties that found a perfect adopter - but this year has brought so many wonderful stories of thankful cats that we had to share some more that wouldn't fit in our letter.

At FFGW, we also want to say "thank you, thank you very much" for all that you, our adopters, volunteers, donors and supporters have enabled us to do this year, and we can't think of a better way to tell you  how much we appreciate all that you do than to show you how thankful our rescued cats are!
Lyn

Lyn came from Buckhannon, WV, pulled from a high-kill shelter where adoption rates are extremely low and euthanasia rates very high.  FFGW tries to rescue cats from places where they have little chance of finding homes... cats like Lyn.

Lyn's adopter tells us - We adopted Lyn (previously Kyndra) from FFGW almost a year ago and I thought I'd let you guys know how well it's going.

Lyn has completely integrated with our family. She's such a friendly, chatty girl and she's made such good friends with our toddler and new baby.

Being around a toddler can be hard for some cats, but when we had talked to the foster she said "she's the perfect cat for a toddler" and boy was she right. She follows him around the house and loves his cuddles and pets even if he's as loud as she is. It's been wonderful to have a cat around again, especially one as great as Lyn. Thanks for rescuing her and letting us give her a forever home

Willow & Milo

Willow and Milo (formerly Harry and Perry) came to us from the Clarke County Shelter.  FFGW tries to take cats that other rescues might not, such as bonded pairs that would do best if adopted together.  Finding a forever home for a pair of cats can take longer, unless...

1 year ago I ran into PetSmart in Leesburg for a couple items & ended up with these two 💖. Milo is a very gentle, sensitive soul with beautiful gold eyes. He is my shadow in the evenings. He is very close to Cosmo, 3 year old grey kitty. Willow is a character & a bit of a trouble maker. She will only eat her meals on top of the chest freezer, lol. Her eyes turned a lovely shade of green & she enjoys full body scratches/massages. Her favorite past times include jumping on book cases & on top of armoires. How did I get so lucky to be in the right place at the right time. I am grateful for them every single day. Thank you for all you do- it matters.

Russell
Hello?  Excuse me... I notice that you're a volunteer for the Feline Foundation?  Could you help me in?

Russel was hanging around the home of one of our volunteers for several weeks, asking if there were any vacancies at the Inn.  After determining he had no chip, our volunteer canvassed the neighborhood to see if he in fact had a home, and meanwhile we took him in and placed him in a foster home...

It turned out that Russell once had a home who simply didn't want him anymore and had turned him out to find his way on his own.  We're so glad that Russel was a resourceful guy, and knew to check in to the FFGW Hotel!  Not only was Russell resourceful, but he was quite the charming houseguest... so charming, that his foster - became his forever home!

Russel and his foster's forever home's dog, Einstein!

That's our mission at FFGW - rescuing cats from high kill shelters, and sometimes from the streets, cats that no one wants, cats that might have a harder time finding a permanent home, cats that just need a little bit of the kind of help FFGW can provide.  (And of course, a ton of fluffy kittens!)

The cats are thankful, you can see it in their eyes, and we at FFGW are thankful for your help, our supporters, our fosters, our volunteers who run the adoption events, do the data input, handle our finances, all the behind the scenes work that makes it possible.

All of you who devote your time and energy to making FFGW's mission your mission - all of us in it together - we thank you!
Please Pass the Left-Meow-Vers!

Did the kitties put mousemeat pie on your shopping list this holiday? Were there extra paws at (on?) your table? What to do with those leftovers, and what about Fluffy begging for some turkey bits - is that safe? Is vegetarian and vegan food ok for your cat?

Giving Tuesday

Right on the heels of Black Friday comes Giving Tuesday - a chance to make amends for - ahem - spending a little too much on material things. Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving in the United States (this year November 30). It is a global movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world, through one day of coordinated giving. This year, we ask that you give in support of Raine, a little kitten that desperately needs a chance - a chance  FFGW wants to give her.

With her gorgeous blue eyes and soft, fluffy fur, Raine looks like a little angel. FFGW rescued her from a rural shelter and when she went to be spayed our veterinarian alerted us that something major was wrong with Raine's heart. We were able to get her into a cardiologist within days, and it was discovered that Raine has a birth defect. . . but the amazing news is that it can be fixed with surgery!

With that amazing news also came some bad news. The surgery to correct her heart defect will be in the $8,000 range.

Raine is only 9 weeks old and, if she makes it through the surgery, the cardiologist said they would do a follow-up checkup a few months later and if all is well, would release Rain with confidence that she would not need ongoing medical treatment.
Without the surgery, Raine will die.

We really need our supporters to rally to help us raise the funds for Raine's operation, which is scheduled for mid-December. (She is so tiny that the surgeon would like her to double her weight before risking the surgery - but it's a delicate balance because we can't risk waiting too long!) Clicking on her photo or the button below will take you to a direct donation link for Raine.  And here's a secret... you don't have to wait until Tuesday!

BUY ME SOMETHING!

No matter whether that cry is about the latest PlayStation or a new package of catnip mice, you can also help us by making your Amazon holiday purchases through our "smile" link!

You can use the button on the left for anything Amazon - select the Feline Foundation of Greater Washington as your designated charity. Your price doesn't change but a percentage goes to FFGW!

So far this year we've received almost $1000, which provides 3-4 spays or 5-6 neuters - enough for an entire litter of kittens!

 Thank you!

I Feel Like Something Chewy!

Actually, not that chewy, but "Chewy"!

www.chewy.com is a pet product company specializing in home delivery of all things pet-related.
FFGW has a "wish list"  which you can find here:

Any products you select from our wish list will be delivered directly to us for use at our adoption center at PetSmart and by our fosters!

If you're new to Chewy, we'll even get a gift certificate for bringing in a new purchaser.
It's a great way to help us in our mission to help the kitties!

Thanks to everyone who has donated food, treats, litter, beds, toys...  Chewy's platform doesn't allow us to see the names of our generous donors, but please know that your support is very much appreciated!  And if you drop us a line and let us know when you donate something, we'll be more than happy to send our thanks!
