| | The Dog Cat Kitten Days of Summer!
We're not sure who decided that August was the "Dog Days" of summer, when any rescuer can tell you summer is Kitten Season. Summer is when more kittens are born than any other time of year, and a time when rescues' resources - fosters and money - are stretched to the max.
This summer has been no different, and at FFGW we have done our best to cope with the hundreds of intake requests from area shelters, and to provide medical care, foster homes and adoptive homes for the dozens of kittens that we did intake.
When FFGW takes in a cat or kitten, we provide a vet visit, deworming, flea treatment, age-appropriate vaccines and spay/neuter (we cover spaying/neutering for all kittens even if adopted before they reach an appropriate age). The cost for each cat is approximately $500, if no additional treatment or vet visits are needed, and our adoption fee covers less than half of that cost.
A single litter of 4 kittens and mom could cost FFGW $2500!
We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has donated to our virtual nursery, and we hope that if you haven't yet helped us put something in the nursery, you'll consider doing so as Kitten Season 2019 continues.
It's a little bit of fun - you can donate an item such as a cat tree, and see our talented artist's drawing of the tree in the nursery, as kittens scamper and play - but it's all "virtual" and all money donated goes directly to providing care for the flood of kittens in FFGW's care.
We especially need your donations this weekend as it's "Clear the Shelters" weekend at PetSmart and along with other rescues we'll be waiving all adoption fees at our Sunday event!
Every donation, no matter how small, helps the kitties, one and all!

| | | | | | | | Clear the Shelters is a nationwide event August 17 - 18 where shelters and rescues across the country strive to have 250,000 adoptions in a single weekend. To help reach that goal, FFGW along with many area rescues will be waiving adoption fees for approved applications at our Leesburg event this Sunday.
FFGW has many adult and bonded pair cats that tend to be overlooked during kitten season, and we hope that this event will help them find homes! You can see some of these wonderful cats by clicking on the photo --> |
| | | Help FFGW at... a Cat Show?
Feline Foundation is seeking volunteers to help staff the National Capital Area Cat Fanciers cat show on September 7 in Winchester, Virginia. We need people to work the gate and also to be stewards, assisting the judges with cleaning cages in between judging events.
NCAC will donate generously to FFGW for our efforts in assisting with the show. This is a great opportunity for our supporters to come together and support our mission. High schoolers looking to earn service hours are welcome. Must be at least 15 years old.

(Get pre-approved for adoption by filling out an adoption form online today.) VOLUNTEERS also needed for setup and tear down at Reston.
