On a Friday afternoon last Fall, I got a call from my brother in Ecuador to let me know that our mother was in an induced comma and the prognosis wasn’t good.
We were in a tiny airport in Florida, ready to go home, but our flight was canceled.
While I was waiting to get a voucher for a hotel, the man standing next to me started a conversation. He told me he was from Corbin, Kentucky, home of the only “moon rainbow” in the Western Hemisphere. There were these falls, he said, that during the full moon you could see a rainbow in front of them if the sky was clear.
It was past midnight the next day before we made it to Knoxville.
I woke up Sunday morning to the news my mom had passed on. The service was Monday morning. Everything was done before I had a chance to take the required COVID test in order to travel.
As the months went by, I kept thinking about the moon rainbow.
What if it was not a coincidence that I met that man that precise day and that he told me about it?
After all the moon represents the mother. Water also represents the mother.
The Moon Rainbow
We finally made it to the moonbow this past weekend.
There was something healing about being in nature, in alignment with the rhythms of the planet, close to midnight. My iPhone was able to capture the moonbow with the night vision setting (see below).
As we were leaving Kentucky, a memory came to me of a dream I’d had with my mother over 20 years ago. In that dream, she and I were walking at the bottom of a magical looking waterfall. The water under our feet was only a few inches deep. It was crystal clear and it reflected the colors of the rainbow. We were walking peacefully and having a happy conversation.
My relationship with my mother wasn't easy. She believed a woman must be submissive and always yield to her husband – no matter what he did. I didn't agree.
There was much my mother needed to heal that she didn't have the chance, or the willingness, to heal in her lifetime.
So now it's up to me. As I work on my own healing, I also heal my family line.
My happiness as a wife, as a mother, and as an individual is healing to my mom and to all the female ancestors that came before her.
As I work to live a truly authentic, happy life, I break the glass ceiling of what my ancestors thought was possible for a woman.
This is one of the topics I'll be covering in the upcoming class Understanding Health, Family and Inheritance on March 31st.
The class will be recorded and there will be a replay available. SEE DETAILS HERE
