My mom gave me the gift of not teaching me to clean the house.
When she was a child, she didn’t like house work at all. She used any trick she could think of to get out of it.
As a young mom with two kids, she had full time help, and as a closet feminist, her one act of rebellion was to never teach me to clean and organize the house.
So I had to figure it all out from scratch.
My mother didn’t teach me how to take care of a home but she gave me a unique advantage – a fresh perspective.
Because I had a completely blank slate, I developed methods and systems to clean and organize a home that were much faster and efficient than the old ways. To do this I:
researched how businesses were kept clean and organized
looked at how professional organizers helped the most extreme cases of clutter – hoarders
combined the above with ancient Feng Shui space and time management techniques
The truth is that most moms inherited ways of cleaning and organizing that were designed for times when women were expected to not do anything fun or fulfilling for themselves. Whether they were home makers or worked outside of the home, women were not expected to have any individual goals or aspirations.
Those methods and systems may have worked then, but they don’t work now.
If you try to apply those old methods today, balls get dropped. You feel like you’re stuck having to choose between having a life or having a home that makes you proud.
Well, the good news is that you don’t have to choose anymore. You can learn better methods and put systems in place to get things done on autopilot.
Messy Kid & Teen Rooms Drain You
