Our families really weigh on us

I once went to drop off something at a friend’s house and she asked if the boys (then little) and I would like to come in for a bit. I said, “no, they need to stay in the car. They’ve been hooligans all morning and I just need a few minutes away from them.”

“That’s such a relief to hear!” she exclaimed. “That you, too, have bad days. You always seem to have everything under control.”

I was surprised to hear this, because my life felt very out of control.

I told her I always admired how she kept it all together, with such poise and grace. She couldn’t believe I would have this perception of her!

So there we were, two imperfect moms being in awe of each other.

Neither of us was doing everything perfectly but we’re both doing a very good job of raising families.

There’s a crucial difference between us, though.

I grew up in a very dysfunctional family. She grew up in one of the most functional families I’ve seen.

Functional vs. Dysfunctional

While my biggest challenge as a mom has been not to reproduce the unhealthy patterns of my upbringing, my friend’s biggest challenge has been to establish her own identity while growing up in a family where there was nothing to rebel against.

Every person needs to figure out who they are, as a member of a family or community, but also as an individual with their own preferences and their own life missions.

Your Health Gets Set in Childhood

The family of your upbringing sets the direction, or vector, of your destiny for health and family.

Without intentionally changing that vector, most people end up reproducing the mental. emotional and behavioral patterns of their parents.

Reproducing patterns, good or bad, is not the way. You need to learn to be yourself and make your own decisions.

An essential aspect of health is the ability to express your uniqueness freely.

That’s the way to be truly happy and truly healthy.

Feng Shui can help you find yourself and improve your family and health destiny, by working on two key spots in your home.

I will teach about these two spots in my upcoming class Understanding Health, Family and Inheritance on March 31st.

The class will be recorded and there will be a replay available. SEE DETAILS HERE
