Love doesn’t need to be kept alive, but marriage does

Friend,

Many people talk about love as something that starts with a spark and then fades, inevitably, over time.

But that isn't true.

The truth about love is that love grows with time.

The more time you spend married to someone, the more you need them and the more you love them. Love grows naturally.

Let's put this into perspective

Think about a beloved pet. You don’t say, “Ah, she used to be so nice and beautiful when she was a puppy, but now that she’s older and not as much fun I have gotten bored with her and I’m thinking of trading her for a younger poodle.” No, right? Every day, every week, every month, you love your pet more. You don’t have to work at it. It just happens.

It’s the same with people.

Love grows over time.

That love grows is always true – except where there’s dishonesty, cheating, or abuse. Then the growth of love gets stunted, and eventually wilts and dies.

Keeping a marriage alive

While love grows naturally, a marriage has to be kept alive.

A marriage only exists as an agreement. A marriage is created through intent.

Intent is the purpose of both partners to stay together, work on their issues and go through the different stages of life as a couple. Otherwise the marriage contract is just a piece of paper.

Just like you tend to a garden every day, in every season, you need to tend to a love relationship.

Love is not enough

Many people who have divorced confess that they still where in love with their spouse the day they signed the divorce papers.

Love alone does not make a marriage last.

The moment one partner stops thinking of the marriage as a living thing, the relationship enters a crisis. If the crisis is extended for a period of time, the marriage ends.

The secret of a lasting marriage is to continue to be engaged with each other, passionately, in every stage of life. But how do you do that?

Feng Shui has an answer for that and it will be revealed in tomorrow’s class on understanding love and marriage
