KITCHENS MEAN WEALTH - so why am I sharing a picture of a washer here?

Our family just finished a couple of remodeling projects in our kitchen and dining areas, which were not planned – at all!

This is how it happened. The washer did it.

This is a long, but fun story of how we upgraded the areas of our home related to wealth.

One afternoon in the fall we heard a ruckus, like something had fallen or broken. We looked around the home and couldn’t figure out what it was. That is, until it was time to move the clothes from the washer to the drier. That’s when we discovered that the agitator inside our top loading washer had pretty much disintegrated and was now lying in pieces, mixed up with the clothes.

We called a repairman but he told us it would be more costly to try to repair it, with no guarantees, than to just buy a new washer.

Marco and I went to the store to get a new washer. Once there, we realized no matter which washer we got, the old drier was going to look odd and old next to it, so we also got a dryer to match. [CHA-CHING!] Because of COVID-19 we had been going out to town very little and that store was really close to the rug store, so on the way home we stopped to pick up a new runner for the hallway, which was long overdue. [CHA-CHING!]

The store where we got the runner also has kitchen cabinets so I suggested we check to see if they would sell us individual cabinet doors because the cabinet doors under our kitchen sink needed replacing (bad). We found out they wouldn’t just sell the doors. But then we saw they had real wood unfinished cabinets and I had been thinking of adding some cabinets to one of the walls in our dining area, so we could have more food storage. By the way, I just read that due to COVID-19, more pantry space is one of the demands of people looking for new homes.

I told Marco we should get an estimate so we would know how much to budget for, I like to plan things ahead. But Marco being Marco, right after we got the estimate he went ahead and paid for the cabinets. [CHA-CHING!]

I had to figure out how to get the new cabinets home in my SUV (no small feat) because the store wouldn’t provide delivery, no matter how much CHA-CHING! we offered, and it was the weekend. It took two very tense trips.

Once the cabinets were sitting in the middle of our family room they felt really intrusive so we lost no time. We stained them, and then I had to learn from YouTube how to install cabinets, which the boys helped me do. Then the cabinets we just added to the dining area needed a new countertop so we got some butcher block. [CHA-CHING!] Then we learned the butcher block needed some special wood oil so it won’t crack. [CHA-CHING!]

Once we installed the new cabinets and countertop in the dining area, the kitchen cabinets looked much worse by contrast, so we ordered some pre-stained real wood cabinet doors to replace all of the the press board doors that came with the house. [BIG CHA-CHING!] My older son and I installed them. And then we had to get new pulls and knobs for both the dining room and the kitchen cabinets, so they would match. [CHA-CHING!]

What was supposed to be a $600 replacement for a washer was just opening the flood gates of spending for an updated kitchen and dining area [CHA-CHING!] [CHA-CHING!] [CHA-CHING!].

The washer started it all. A problem in our Helpful People, Spiritual Life and Travel Life Area (our laundry room) revealed a new to uplevel our wealth consciousness. Our dining room is in the Wealth, Prosperity and Self-Worth corner of our home. In addition to that, the room in the home that represents wealth is the kitchen.

Sometimes your home just wants something and it won't stop until it gets what it wants. One improvement, small or large, ends up producing tons of other improvements. The home doesn't care about the budget or the inconvenience.

The home wants what it wants! But if you give your home what it wants and needs, you'll be rewarded. A home you love, loves you back.

A home you love, loves you back.
