When our two sons were little, we always made bread at home. But as they grew into young men, we couldn’t keep up, so we started buying it at the store. Now that our youngest has left home, I’ve stopped buying bread, with the intention of replacing it with homemade bread again.

The other night, I stayed up late to make some flatbread. In the morning, when I went to have a small piece with a little cheese for breakfast, it was gone. My husband had eaten it — all of it — with his breakfast.

I was furious! He apologized immediately and profusely. But even though I accepted his apology, I couldn’t even talk to him until lunch. It wasn’t until nighttime that we were back to normal, and were able to laugh about the incident. That’s how it is sometimes.

Just because someone apologizes, and you forgive them, that doesn’t mean that the damage they caused is magically undone.

Something similar may happen when you start the Feng Shui process of your home, especially if you have been neglecting your place for a long time. If you have been unable to take proper care of your home, even if you had very valid reasons like financial constraints, illness or lack of energy, your home won’t forgive you right away. There will be some lingering resentment for the neglect or for any abuse you have inflicted on your home.
