Writing essays can be tedious at times but it's important to remember that all the struggles are worth it in the long run. Essays have the potential to open a lot of doors for you, especially if you're a good writer. Below are some tips and resources to help you're writing become even better. |

George Orwell's rules for writing could be beneficial to you. The rules are as follows:- Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.
- Never use a long word where a short one will do.
- If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.
- Never use the passive where you can use the active.
- Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English Equivalent.
- Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.

Taken together, then, the overall structure of a five paragraph essay should look something like this: Introduction Paragraph
- An attention-grabbing "hook"
- A thesis statement
- A preview of the three subtopics you will discuss in the body paragraphs.
First Body Paragraph
- Topic sentence which states the first subtopic and opens with a transition
- Supporting details or examples
- An explanation of how this example proves your thesis
Second Body Paragraph
- Topic sentence which states the second subtopic and opens with a transition
- Supporting details or examples
- An explanation of how this example proves your thesis
Third Body Paragraph
- Topic sentence which states the third subtopic and opens with a transition
- Supporting details or examples
- An explanation of how this example proves your thesis
Concluding Paragraph
- Concluding Transition, Reverse "hook," and restatement of thesis.
- Rephrasing main topic and subtopics.
- Global statement or call to action.
