As women of size, we don't often get to see ourselves in media...
...AT ALL, much less being portrayed in a positive light or experiencing sisterhood with celebratory energy. So, when we see art dedicated to the sisterhood of Black and Brown women of size, it can be a beautiful thing.
"Big Girl Energy" by Riley is a song that speaks of empowerment, confidence, and desirability for big girls. It's something we need to hear celebrated more often. The video is a beautiful form of visual arts that aligns with the messaging of the song. Seeing Riley with her abundant body, moving with confidence and taking up space, and rocking out with her girls is the kind of representation that that truly honors the magic of fat Black and Brown women. |
