In the midst of what became a life of pain and suffering with polio, Mrs. Gibbs taught her young son three crucial aspects of dwelling in the “secret place” described in Psalm 91. “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday" (Psalm 91:5-6).
As she openly lived with her disease in the “secret place,” the answer to her simple prayer and God's overwhelming response became a ministry that directly reached more than 5,000 people in their community. After her death, people estimated that more than 80 pastors and 200 missionaries resulted from Mrs. Gibbs's ministry. Through her life, God accomplished impossible things! |
