“Worship Him in Spirit and Truth” by Phyllis Inniss
“Verily I say unto you, Except you be
converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of
heaven.” (Matt. 18:3)
I
was raised a Methodist but sometimes visited with my friends the Roman Catholic
Church nearby; I accompanied my cousins to the Anglican (Episcopal) Church and
with some distant relatives I visited a Pentecostal Church. The
pleasure of these attendances was being with friends, cousins etc. I
don’t think we paid much attention to what the priest, reverend, pastor or
minister was saying as much as fellowshipping with each other. A
little pinch here and there from one of the grownups to stop us from chatting
or fidgeting kept us in line.
As
an adult, imagine my dismay after a long absence from home, to discover many
persons displaying contempt and disdain for others who belong to a denomination
other than theirs and actually condemning their belief system, even though they
are worshipping the same God. We lose the innocence of childhood as
we grow into adulthood, becoming biased and our minds polluted with the ideas
of the world. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of
God.” (Rom. 3:23), so there is no reason to feel that your membership in one
Church gives you easier acceptance into the Kingdom of God over another.
Jesus
is the Head of the Church and if we follow Him, we must follow Him in spirit
and in truth.
