Subject: Friend, a short update with news, links, and nature fun from Everyday Education

Dear Friend,

We've almost reached the end of convention season, so life should be settling down a bit so that I can finish the last two levels of Excellence in Literature.

This is just a quick note to let you know that I've posted some ideas for Nature Fun (along with our latest wildlife sightings) on the blog, so if you're thinking of things to do this summer, you may want to check it out. It can be a great blessing to spend time appreciating creation, and I believe it's important for children to be thoroughly acquainted with their surroundings, so summer is a great time for the outdoors.

If you can't resist doing some active learning during the summer, you may enjoy unit studies created by the Kiwi Literacy Group. These very nicely done literature-based unit studies include studies on The Pond Ecosystem, Plant Life Cycles, Weather, Bats, Owls, Wolves in the Wild, and more.

If you have a student who is planning to Get a Jump Start on College, you'll find this free CLEP prep site very helpful.

Writing prompt generators: If you want to keep up writing skills during the summer, you may enjoy trying these writing prompt generators.

Generator #1 seems to be for students. Sample prompt: "If I were a superhero, I would be..."

Generator #2 seems to be for older students and adults. Sample prompt: "Structure a poem or prose writing according to city streets, miles, walks, drives. For example: Take a fourteen-block walk, writing one line per block to create a sonnet; choose a city street familiar to you, walk it, make notes and use them to create a work; take a long walk with a group of writers, observe, make notes and create works, then compare them; take a long walk or drive-write one line or sentence per mile. Variations on this."

We'll be at the Northern Virginia Home Education Conference this weekend. If you can come, please look us up in booth 203. I’ll be speaking on High School Transcripts and The Essential Essay. I hope to see you there!

Blessings,
