Subject: Friend, a favorite carol and a reminder for you

Merry Christmas!
10 December 2014

Dear Friend,

I just wanted to send a quick note to share a delightful video of one of my favorite carols, and to remind you that our Thanskgiving sale will end on 12/12/14. I won't take down the link until the next day, but I figured a bit of advance notice might be a good thing. You'll find the four posters, linking to the sale items, on the front page of Everyday-Education.com.

It's been quiet on the blog for the past few weeks because I've been working on a huge project—moving our Everyday-Education.com website to a new format. After a lot of 10-12 hour days, I'm beginning to think it might actually be completed before the end of the year! This means that one day when you stop by, you'll see a shiny new interface that I hope will work beautifully. If you stop by and something looks funny, please be patient. we're duct-taping everything together as fast as possible!

Meanwhile, we are winding down the year and looking forward to the next. One of the carols I particularly enjoy is "O Holy Night," and I especially like this video of a live performance by King's College Choir, Cambridge. The setting is beautiful, and it is interesting to watch the singers, conductor, and organist as they soar through the music. If you haven't heard this lovely carol recently, here are the words.

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night Divine.

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here come the wise men from Orient land.
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friend.

He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King, Before Him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.

According to Wikipedia, "'O Holy Night' ('Cantique de Noël') is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem 'Minuit, chrétiens' (Midnight, Christians) by a wine merchant and poet, Placide Cappeau (1808–1877)."

I wish you and your family blessings and joy during this holiday season, and peace for the beginning of the new year.

Blessings,

Janice Campbell

P. S. If you do not celebrate Christmas, I wish you a Happy Hanukkah if appropriate, and joy and blessings through the rest of the year.
