Dear Friend,
Have you started the new school year? It's hard to believe summer is almost over (except this morning, when heavy grey clouds gave everything a winter-cast until I stepped out into the breath-taking humidity). Oh well. I'm still enjoying fresh tomato sandwiches on toasted Trader Joe's whole wheat sourdough. YUM! I hope you're enjoying the last bits of summer as well (or looking forward to it if you're in the southern hemisphere).
I've been working hard to recover all my files from the old computer, and get the two remaining levels of literature (Level 2--Literature and Composition and Level 5-- World Literature) back on track. For those of you who can't wait, I'll have pre-order buttons posted on the site by the end of the week, Lord willing. I've been blessed by the many positive reviews that are coming in (you can see them on the blog-- www.Janice-Campbell.com-- just look at the Reviews category), and I hope they help you make decisions about whether Excellence in Literature is a good fit for your family.
One exciting thing-- my webmaster is creating a new site for Excellence In Literature. We'll have not only the print and e-book versions there, but also a web-book version that will be a very interesting innovation. You'll subscribe to a level, just as you would purchase the book, but you'll receive a password to your level that lets you access the units. Each unit will have its own page, with active links, images, embedded audio and video where available, and everything else we can think of to make it a terrific, easy-to-use experience for students. I'm excited about it, and not a little impatient! I'll be sure to let you know when it's ready.

Great Literature is Great Because It's Sticky
I’ve been thinking about Antigone all morning. She’s the heroine in the ancient Greek tragedy by Sophocles, and though the story was written over 1000 years ago, Antigone is a fresh, vibrant, unforgettable character. Her story raises more questions than it answers, and it sticks in my mind because those questions are about some of the most important issues that humankind can consider. My colleague, Connie Schenkelberg, a retired teacher and author of Grammar Made Easy and other helpful resources offers tutoring and mentoring services for a very reasonable monthly rate. If you're not sure of your ability to evaluate writing or guide your student through his or her studies, I recommend that you contact Connie at cshcenkelberg@comcast.net. She's an excellent teacher, and I highly recommend her.
