One of my favorite books ever is "The 4-hour workweek" by Tim Ferris. Inside it, he exposes the 9-5 mentality that plagues work environments for what it is: Archaic...
Nerve-wracking...
And pretty much useless in the 21st century.
Here's a story that perfectly illustrates it:
When Tim was working in a company, his supervisor advised him to cold-call prospects between 9 and 5.
A few months passed.
Tim followed religiously the advice.
And he couldn't close a sale to save his life.
So, he thought:
"Most cold calls don't get to the intended person for one reason: gatekeepers. What if I call between 8:00 and 8:30 A.M.? "
He did and, bingo.
Sales came pouring in.
Then, he took it one step further.
He also called between 6:00 and 6:30 P.M.
Again, more sales.
For a total of one hour, he was able to avoid secretaries and book more than twice as many meetings as the senior sales executives who called from 9–5.
In other words, he got twice the results...
...for 1/8 the time.
His supervisor should have been ecstatic, right?
