Dear Friend,
From time to time, I look at my email list of QSO Today listener sponsors, trolling for potential guests. Guy Lemieux, VE2BWL, has been a listener sponsor of the QSO Today Podcast for a number of years. This seemed like the right time to reach out to Guy to this his ham radio story.
Guy has just downsized this QTH and this antenna farm. The story that he tells is about the last QTH, where under the pressure and stress of a corporate job as the CEO of a Canadian company, Guy decided to build his own self-supporting, 110 foot, tower from raw materials delivered to his barn. This project was Guy's meditation and stress reliever.
Our discussion reminded me of some of the projects that I have done, where I start without really understanding all of the tools that I would need to finish the project. So stopping at the tool store, every night, to pick up one more thing was a regular part of the big project. Of course, Guy's project was an order of magnitude larger than anything I built, and it required a whole lot more real equipment just to move the pieces around the yard. He goes into greater detail in this QSO about this one of seven towers and the contest station that he built.
The response to the idea of a QSO Today Israel "Bus DXpedition" took root this week. Fred Schramm, K2HA, my guest last week, set the wheels in motion when he returned to the USA. Tour agencies in both the USA and Israel, are beginning to prepare for a ham radio tour of Israel in 2021. I created an on-line form that you can get to by clicking on the banner on the show notes page.
This is one of my bucket list projects to share Israel with my ham radio listeners. We are in the planning states and are thinking of how to add the ham radio component to the standard 10 day tour of the country. I am anxious for your suggestions about lectures, operating, and other activities that you might include in this kind of trip.
I am already excited and hope to meet many of you here in Israel next year.
