Dear Friend,
After my QSO with George Byrkit, K9TRV, I was reflecting all week on how we, the amateur radio community, and the community at large, benefit from the application of a person's knowledge from a lifetime of work experience to advancing the state of the art in our hobby. George spent over 40 year developing software, originally for mini computers like the PDP11, and advancing through the years to the modern systems that we have today. After George retired, he still applies this expertise to HPSDR at TAPR, and to HamSCI, the project that we heard about with Dr. Nathaniel Frissell, W2NAF, in Episode 262.
I am currently working with my friend and colleague, Dr. Yehuda Cern, 4X1TQ, on a few projects. Yehuda was one of my first guests in Episode 7, when I was just getting started. If you have not heard that episode, then click here.
What I find fascinating working with Yehuda, is that you can't beat 60 years of experience when solving RF design and electronic engineering problems. It is one thing to Google a problem, it is another thing to instinctively know if the direction that you are heading in your problem solving is the right one.
As hams, we are lucky to have George, Yehuda, and the hams that I have interviewed in the QSO Today Podcast contributing to advancing the state of the art. We all benefit greatly.
