Dear Friend,
I have written in the past that we do not curse the rain in Israel as we live in the desert, so every drop is precious. I know that the blessing of rain has its downsides, especially when we are not used to so much that flooding and drowning in an elevator is a possibility and already happened this season.
So it was on one of these stormy evenings where I went to a prearranged meeting with my friend, Howard, 4X1ZZ, to meet Fred Schramm, K2HA, at his hotel in the center of Jerusalem. Fred had already spent the first half of his 10 day visit just touring the sites in and around Jerusalem.
The average Israeli tour is 10 days to get an overview of the country from top to mid-section. Most tours rarely go South to our Red Sea port city of Eilat, a five hour drive, unless the tour wants to cross over into Jordan to see the ancient city of Petra.
So it was in this context that we went to see Fred. I took along my Zoom H5 recorder to record Fred, but forgot, from my lack of live recording experience to bring the pop filter. So I offer my apology. Ben Bresky tried to get rid of mostly my popping, it is still there.
Live interview, on location, is a new skill for me as most of the interviews are conducted from my office with a fair amount of preparation. This interview with Fred was "off the cuff", but turned out to be very interesting for me, and I hope for you too.
I have thought in the past to create a tour of Israel for hams who listen to the QSO Today podcast that would include a 10 day tour of the sites with ham radio field operations and lectures along the way. Of course, we would have programming for non-hams on the trip. If this sounds interesting to you, please reply to this message.
Thanks for listening.
