Mardi Gras, also Fat Tuesday, refers to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Epiphany or King’s Day and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.
In 2011 Kayree Entertainment brought the traditions of Mardi Gras to ATLANTA! It started as a social gathering for natives of Mobile who moved to Atlanta. This historic event quickly expanded to include natives of New Orleans now living in Atlanta. The rivalry of the origins of Mardi Gras crosses state lines as natives of Mobile and New Orleans now living in Atlanta debate the birthplace of Mardi Gras. Soon, people were traveling from Mobile and New Orleans to experience ATL Mardi Gras.
Now, over 500 Mardi Gras revelers gather in Atlanta to celebrate a 300 year tradition and continue the rivalry.
