Subject: Myth: going with the flow is about being passive (meditation enclosed)

Going with the flow is not about being lazy or passive.

"People who go with the flow may be interpreted as lazy or passive, but to truly go with the flow requires awareness, presence, and the ability to blend one's own energy with the prevailing energy."

Happy Monday, Friend!

In yesterday's Wisdom Tea meditation was inspired by the DailyOM blog that popped up in my email shortly before our meditation circle. It resonated in a big way and I was called to share (as were other members of our YINpreneur™ circle) this meditation.

The blog by Madisyn Taylor, "Working With A Larger Energy" spoke to a deeper meaning of "going with the flow."

Reading the following passage affirmed the energy and power of this practice, "People who go with the flow may be interpreted as lazy or passive, but to truly go with the flow requires awareness, presence, and the ability to blend one's own energy with the prevailing energy."

Do you relate? Have you been faced with this assessment of giving up, being lazy or passive when you've stated, "I'm going with the flow."?

Active Flow
I find that those in practice know that it is often anything but lazy or easy to be in the flow. To stay grounded, connected, and present takes practice. It sometimes takes real work. It is a balance of flowing (yin, being energy) and doing (yang energy).

I often refer to the metaphor of kayaking river classifications and flow. One may lean back and feel ease with the 1-3, with a more traditional definition of going with the flow (yin ease). Yet, one must be even more in sync with the flow of the river when they meet 4 & 5 rapids. To get stiff, fight or resist can cause one to lose control or capsize and end up in the river rather than flowing on it.

As a Master SCUBA diver, we also learned about active flow. Fighting the current uses up air and drains energy. Being calm, breathing, and swimming across the current, on a diagonal, allows one to go with the flow and make it safely to sure.

In Tai Chi/martial arts, one learns that breathing and going with the flow allows one to gather energy and use external energies in their favor.

Flow with your business
In business, especially when we first get started, we often spend a great deal of time working and doing. We find it hard to believe that we can stop, breathe and go with the flow. We get caught up in the noise, aka the market, or what we may wrongly consider our competition, and find ourselves riding those waves. Tossed and exhausted we do not trust that we can slow down to speed up our success. To pause, breathe, listen and trust our inner wisdom. Renew versus drain our energy and spirit. Create our business in our own likeness as a sovereign entrepreneur.

As entrepreneurs, one may hear of working "on" their business, e.g., marketing, growing your tribe. Others will speak of working "in" their business, e.g., leading courses, creating websites, etc. As YINpreneurs™, I like to think of working "with" your business. Listening to and aligning with your energy and authentic voice.
