Subject: Public Holiday Notice | Eid ul-Fitr expected on 31st March or 1st April

Public Holiday Notice:

Eid ul-Fitr - Expected on 31st March or 1st April

Please note that either Monday 31st March 2025 or Tuesday 1st April 2025 will be a public holiday in Mauritius for Eid ul-Fitr, depending on the moon sighting. Our office and Banks will be closed on the holiday. All banking transactions, including securities and forex, will resume processing on the next business day after the holiday.

The precise date of Eid ul-Fitr depends on the visibility of the moon. Should the crescent moon be sighted on the evening of 30th March, the holiday will be observed on Monday 31st March.

If the crescent moon remains unseen, Ramadan fasting continues for an additional day, and the holiday will be observed on Tuesday 1st April instead.

Eid ul-Fitr is a vibrant cultural celebration marking the end of Ramadan. The festivities begin with the sighting of the new moon. Families gather for special meals featuring traditional dishes and sweets. Many observe the tradition of wearing new clothes and exchanging gifts. The celebration in Mauritius among the Muslim community is marked by community gatherings, decorative homes, and a spirit of generosity.
