Effective since 12 March 2022, vaccinated travellers are no more required to present a negative PCR test done within 72 hours before their departure.
In an official communique, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) has further clarified that the Day-5 test requirement has also been waived; nevertheless all vaccinated1 visitors will still be subject to a Covid Test on the day of their arrival at the airport.
With regard to unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated passengers, the 14-day quarantine period has now been replaced by a 7-day self-isolation period.
Moreover, the following entry requirements are mandatory for all categories of visitors flying to Mauritius:
It is to be noted that Mauritian citizens, resident permit holders and occupational permit holders do not need to arrange for the COVID-19 insurance health cover.
The above measures are in line with the global adoption of less stringent sanitary protocols with regard to travel and will aim to garner more business and leisure travellers by easing the entry procedures to Mauritius.
With over 90% of the local population being fully vaccinated and further to this recent lifting of restrictions, Mauritius conveys the message that it is a safe and flexible travel destination and the authorities are expecting a steady rise in incoming visitors in the coming months.
1 Passengers will be considered fully vaccinated if:
a. they have been administered at least 14 days before departures a full course of any of the following vaccines: Astrazeneca (Vaxzevria or Covishield), Covaxin, Moderna, Pfizer Biontech, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Sputnik; or
b. they have been administered at least 28 days before departure with Janssen; or
c. they have produced documentary evidence that they have recovered from Covid-19 and thereafter have been vaccinated with one of the doses of the above-mentioned vaccines at least 14 days prior to their departure to Mauritius.
