Subject: 💧 Every Drop Counts: Small Actions, Big Impact This World Water Day 🌊

Helloooooo thereeee People!

💧 As we celebrate World Water Day tomorrow 22nd March, it's worth taking a moment to think about our own water situation here in Mauritius. Our reservoirs are currently at just 44% capacity, which is cause for concern as we head towards the drier winter months.

The recent rainfall, while welcome, hasn't been enough to significantly boost our water reserves. Every drop counts now more than ever, as we're facing a potentially challenging situation in the coming months when rainfall becomes even scarcer. Winter in Mauritius typically brings drier conditions, with much less precipitation than we're used to. This means we all need to be mindful about our water usage and do our bit to conserve this precious resource. 💎

In this edition of Gazette, we'll be sharing practical tips to help you save water both at home and in the workplace. From easy bathroom modifications to smart kitchen practices and office conservation strategies, our tips will show how small changes can make a big difference to both the environment and your wallet. 🫰

Let's make World Water Day more than just a date on the calendar – let's make it the start of some positive habits! 🌊

Water-Saving Tips 💦

  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth – this can save up to 6 litres per minute! 🪥

  • Collect rainwater in buckets or barrels to water your plants and garden 🌱

  • Fix leaky taps promptly to avoid any dripping tap 🔧

  • Wash fruits and veg in a bowl rather than under running water, then use the water for your plants 🍎

  • Use a broom, not a hose to clean outdoor areas like driveways and patios 🧹

  • Take showers instead of baths – a full bath can use up to 80 litres of water 🛁

  • Limit showers to 5 minutes – use a timer if it helps! ⏱️

  • Reuse pasta or rice cooking water to water plants after it cools 🍚

  • Choose drought-resistant plants that require less watering in your garden 🌵

  • Run washing machines and dishwashers only with full loads to maximise efficiency 👕

  • Report any bathroom leaks or running toilets in the office to Admin Team immediately 🚽
