Wow, it's already August again. The 10th. high season in our idyllic paradise is really in full swing. What a ride! And where did the time go? It seems that time flies by.

We've had a great time, celebrating, crying, and sometimes cursing our new lives. Yeah, it's not all roses in Andalusia neither. Every once in a while, I even wanted to return to where I came from. But hey, that feeling passes quickly because, honestly, who would want to leave this place? 😉

The pool area is where the party's at!

We've got plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas by the pool now. No more crazy towel-reserving madness in the morning! 😁 Our dining area is right next to the pool, perfect for breakfast and dinner on warm summer nights. And if you're in the mood for drinks, head over to the Honesty Bar. We also have a cozy lounge for reading and chatting. It's the best spot to gather for an aperitif and catch those breathtaking sunsets. That's why the pool area is the heart of our place! 😍

Fun in the water: exciting water sports await!

Some folks enjoy the pool, but others can't resist the lure of the sea. I get it; splashing around in the water can be refreshing. Personally, I'm not into water sports after accidentally stepping on a Manta's head during my first snorkelling attempt. That scared both the Manta and me! 🤣 Instead, I enjoy sitting on the seabed with my diving mask, watching the fish like others watch TV. But for those who love water and are braver than me, our area offers options like canoeing, sailing, surfing, kiteboarding, and stand-up paddleboarding (whatever the proper name for that is 😄) ...

10 years of Cortijo El Sarmiento means embracing change!

As the wise Confucius once said, "They must often change, who would be constant in happiness or wisdom." This statement was valid over a century ago, and it remains pertinent in our contemporary world of rapid change. At the end of each season, we reflect on what worked well and what needs to go. After the 2022 season, we decided to cut ties with travel agencies, and yes, it was a bit scary. But we knew it was the right call because it had stopped making us happy long ago. And you know what? When one door closes, another opens! 😀

And Ta-dah! May we introduce our most recent adjustment?

Meet Ron, the newest addition to the Cortijo El Sarmiento team. He's the maestro of our gourmet evenings, making them even more special and extraordinary. We had a not-so-great attempt with a cook a few years back, but ever since Ron came on board, everyone's been so happy—Ron, us, and especially our guests who have tasted his creations since April. Ron is a Dutch guy with a French-speaking Belgian wife, well-traveled and deeply passionate about cooking. Since our passion is food, it's a perfect combo. And don't worry, no fries with mayo here! 😆

So, how does our gourmet evening go down?

We start with an apéritif and some nibbles in the lounge by the pool. Then, it's time to gather around the long table for a feast. Ron spends a whole day in the kitchen once a week, crafting an incredible 5-6 course surprise menu based on the freshest market ingredients. Think fresh fish from Almería, lamb from Sierra de los Filabres, or delicious Iberian pork with some Asian or Arabic influences. Prepare to be amazed!

Gourmet or Gourmand – spill the beans!

I think we can all agree that there's a difference between being a gourmet and being a gourmand. Fact is, we at El Sarmiento are "suffering" from both. It is difficult to hide! 😁 Only Reiner, our sporty spice, is a passionate road cyclist, balancing out the calorie intake. For the rest of us, we indulge in our hobby a bit more often than we probably should. As for hobbies, it's a bit sparse, but Carsten and Yvonne have discovered a genuine passion for marketing, hence the awesome newsletters like this one.😉
