Welcome to the December issue of our monthly newsletter.

All of us at Friendly Water for the World hope this email finds you well. We know these can be difficult times and more so for some than others. But for those of us who can do more to help others, it's an important opportunity to make a substantial difference in the lives of vulnerable people and communities around the world. This month, don't miss stories about:

  • Better Bricks, Better Futures

  • 2020 10-year anniversary Fall fundraiser recap

  • Gift bunching

  • Monthly Chat

  • December 15th Board of Directors meeting

As we mentioned last month, you'll notice one format change in the newsletter this month - our long-form features are being hosted on our website under the brand new News page.

That means this email will only include story introductions or summaries. If you are interested and want to read the whole story, just click the Read More link and you'll be taken to our website and the full story. In the future, if you ever want to catch up on something from the past or present, all you need to do is visit https://friendlywater.org/news.

We hope you enjoy the updates. If you have any suggestions on how to improve our monthly newsletter or have ideas for stories to include, please contact will@friendlywater.org.

Until our next Chat, our next newsletter, or whenever we are fortunate enough to see each other again. Please be safe and kind to others.

-Will, on behalf of our community of staff, volunteers, and supporters

Better Bricks, Better Futures

In March of 2020, when our worlds seemed to be spinning out of control, we told you about projects we had just completed with the community of Monze, Zambia. We didn't know it at the time, but those projects were about to help produce a new school.

On Friday, November 27, dozens of people from New Zealand to India shared their Friday night (and Saturdays in some places) to hear stories from our past and learn about the programs of our present and future. We traveled the world together to learn about caste discrimination in India to water security in rural Zambia. Now you can read a quick summary of the evening or watch the event.

Charitable Giving

Back this month is our special contributor, Tom McLean. Tom is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM in Olympia, founder of Advitica Financial Planning, and writes for us about charitable giving techniques that may create new tax and financial planning opportunities. In this month's article, he'll help explain gift bunching and Donor Advised Funds, and how they can be especially helpful this year.

And please keep in mind that Friendly Water for the World is part of matching gift programs at Microsoft, Kaiser Permanente, Google, Boeing, and others. If you have an employer that has a matching gift program, please help us become part of their system.

Monthly Chat

Due to the holiday season, there will be no monthly Chat in December - the final Friday falls on Christmas Day - we hope you'll be able to spend it responsibly with your family and friends. If you haven't yet, catch up on our last Chat about Community Engagement.
