Subject: Have you met your new neighbors?

They can't wait to meet you.

Dear Friend,

Two weeks ago, we had to reserve the biggest hall in the Kambiri Market to fit everyone who wanted to attend our largest Community Engagement event to date. 150 people representing the 18 villages of Bulovi and Ivakale, Kenya joined us for a full day of meetings, presentations, discussions, and some good tea and mandazi (donuts).

Listening to our neighbors

Our Kakamega Build Center sits right in the middle of these villages and Kambiri Market. It is our headquarters and home in Western Kenya and East Africa. Just about anywhere you have a home, you have neighbors. Neighbors that you care about, look out for, and would like to get to know a little better.

In the days and weeks leading up to the Kambiri Community Engagement, our team went door-to-door to survey the community. We spoke with farmers and elders, health workers and teachers. They told us that:

  • soap isn’t available for everyone, so many don’t wash their hands

  • most cook over unsafe smokey fires that pollute their lungs

  • people routinely get sick from waterborne illnesses

  • hours are spent every day retrieving and boiling water

But, we did find hope, because Kambiri receives good rainfall. They just need a way to capture and store it - we can do that!

More together than apart

Every person and every village we work with is unique. But they all share two things in common - they can do more together than apart, and they want to act now.

As next year approaches, this is the moment to join your neighbors and friends in communities like Ivakale and Bulovi, Matsakha and Munamoomba. They may be far from you, but good work makes neighbors of us all.

When you act, we can act. Your gift will help build the 56 rainwater catchment tanks, 72,000 bricks, and 12,000 liters of liquid soap we already have planned for 2022 and so much more. Give before December 31st, and you’ll be able to take advantage of end-of- year tax savings while investing in a better world for your neighbors and ours.

Working together,
