makes me a bit of a gypsy by the numbers. When I look back on all those homes and all the moves, I think of two things. First, I've bought a lot of pizza for friends who helped me with the heavy lifting (thanks everyone!). And second, I've had many good neighbors along the way.
In fact, it's hard to think about your homes without thinking about your neighbors and neighborhoods. Like me, I'm sure you've had good neighbors who were there to share an egg or cup of sukari (Swahili for sugar) if you needed it. Maybe they even became friends as your kids played together or you shared a Sunday barbecue in the backyard. And maybe you've had a neighbor or two that you were happy to no longer share a fence with. But that still made for a good story.
Now that I've long since moved away from dozens of neighbors, they still form part of my community. In fact, it doesn't really matter how far you are from someone, if you share something with them, if they have an impact on your life and the world around you, they are a neighbor. Technology, international trade, and climate change have all contributed to making our world smaller and interconnected. Neighbors are sometimes just a mouse click away.
We can see now that the actions of people a world away can have an impact on our lives. And the actions we take can drastically impact theirs. Every time you contribute or share in our work, you make it possible for us to make new friends and neighbors. By us all investing in our work, we create a shared mission. But more than that, we set off on a path of creating the kind of world we all want to see. As we come towards the end of 2021, I want to thank you on behalf of our community for helping us on our mission to transform villages and build new futures for our neighbors everywhere.
