Delivering the OPPORTUNITY you want to see.

"My Name is Celestine Khasoa, a mother of six children: three boys and three girls. They are of school going age. I was brought up in a culture where men were required to provide for their family, so I was dependent on my husband for our upkeep. But with the economic strain that we are experiencing in our country, my husband was unable to meet all our needs and I had to look for an alternative. That’s how I got the stacking work at Kambiri Community Development Group. Surprisingly, what I thought I could not do for many years turned out to be the most exciting venture in my life. I enjoyed the work, and it eased the economic burden on our family."

Friendly Water's mission is centered on creating opportunities through community empowerment. We begin by determining community desires.

Our programs are effective. We offer round-the-clock management, literally walking alongside our partners.

Friendly Water creates sustainable change that stays the path and helps advance intergenerational opportunities.

We do this incrementally, assisting communities as they realize the changes they dream of, and seize opportunities that lead to empowerment.

Faith Antoriki
St. Tabitha Orphanage & School

Malava, Kenya

"My name is Faith Antoriki. I am 16 years of age and in high school in form three. I stay here at St. Tabitha Orphanage and School as a vulnerable child. I have been here for the past three years now.

As gals our dormitory needs full time water, which was a big challenge to me and my fellow learners here. We used to go down to the stream to fetch water. The place is very bushy and the water is also not so safe for us .

It became riskier when one of us was bitten by a snake and that is when we all became afraid. What I will say is that you have really saved us a big time from all the dangers and animals in the bush as I now have water next to me. This will improve my hygiene as a young girl who loves cleanliness.

Thank you, Phinney-Ridge Lutheran Church, for this precious gift to my school and thank you Friendly Water for supporting us getting a Rainwater Catchment Tank. I promise to improve on my studies as I will utilize the time I was wasting before going to the stream to study well."

Friendly Water's programs are founded upon the principles of

Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD).

The ABCD Institute at DePaul University describes Asset Based Community Development as "a large and growing movement that considers local assets as the primary building blocks of sustainable community development. Building on the skills of local residents, the power of local associations, and the supportive functions of local institutions, asset-based community development draws upon

existing community strengths to build stronger, more

sustainable communities for the future."

Felix Otunga aka "the Charcoal Man"

Kambiri, Kenya

"My name is Felix Otunga , oherwise known as “charcoal man “. Charcoal burning was my business. I used to stay in the forest for three months burning and the government had labeled me as a dangerous person to the environment. I was on the government list of the people who are destructive to forest cover, so we always played a game of cat and mouse with forest guards to avoid being caught.

I entirely depended on the business for the upkeep of my family. I had developed a cycle of informers who could tell me where the forest guards were. It was a life of trial and error until when the area chief asked me to visit the offices of Kambiri Community Development Group and request for any kind of work . Indeed, I was offered a training on brick production. This work has helped me not to be on the run avoiding forest guard and also, we are saving the forest cover.

I am glad of this work."
