Subject: This May Be Stupid, But I Need to Tell You How We Are Winning the Research Battle

The Royal College of Psychiatrists’
Medical Journal Just Reported

That
10% of Mental Health Problems
Are Attributable to Abortion!

We’re Winning the Research Battle!!

So I Need to Do Something Stupid . . . Again.

Dear Friend,

Every time I send out a “good news” fund raising letter, it bombs.

I should know better. Fundraising experts teach ministries to focus on emergencies and specific needs. Those get donations.

“But good news,” they say, “makes donors complacent and less likely to give.” So I know I shouldn’t start with the above headline. But I can’t stop myself!

So please. Just this once. Show me that you are so inspired by this good news that you want to help us produce even more good news!  (You can make a donation here.

The Good News

Here’s the scoop:

A systematic literature review of the 22 best studies on abortion and mental health was just published in the journal of Britain’s Royal College of Psychiatrists. It reported that all of the 22 studies meeting the strictest standards for inclusion showed higher rates of psychological problems associated with abortion.

The combined results of all 22 studies show that women who have abortions face 81% more mental health problems.

Plus, fully 10% of mental health problems being treated today appear to be attributable to past abortions.

Now, this is one of the world’s top medical journals. And systematic meta-analyses like this are widely regarded as the most objective way of summarizing research findings.

And here’s the kicker . . .

9 of the 22 studies were made possible by you, our supporters.

Yes, through your support of the Elliot Institute, I was able to be the lead author or co-author on nine of what are arguably the most important studies ever published on abortion and mental health.

Plus, seven were funded exclusively by the Elliot Institute.

See?! Your donations really have made the difference!

But There Is Also a Little Bad News

While this new review was widely covered in the British media, the story was spiked here in America. Almost none of the major newspapers, wire services, or networks covered this story.

The myth that abortion helps women is so sacrosanct that most editors decided to immediately kill this “bad news.”

Imagine if the meta-analysis had shown that childbirth is linked to 10% of all mental health problems among women?! What a media field day that would have been!

Here’s What We Can Do About It

First, with your help, we’re starting a major push for Congressional hearings on the abortion and mental health issue.

The trend in research findings is overwhelming. But the truth is being hidden not only by the media, but also by government agencies that are charged with educating the public about health issues.

Plus, the federal government can and should require any health care providers who receive federal funds to screen for the risk factors associated with abortion complications and inform women of these risks.

Moreover, it is long past time for legislators to demand that there be a major national longitudinal study of abortion complications – a study first recommended by then-Surgeon General C. Everett Koop back in 1988.

Pro-abortionists blocked the research then, saying it would be a waste of money since abortion is “known to be safe.” This new meta-analysis proves that the trend in evidence shows abortion is unsafe.

These issues should be investigated by Congress. And with your help, I am confident the time is right to get those hearings.

Such hearings will elevate the abortion mental health issue in the political debate. And that is the only way to finally break the media blockade surrounding abortion complications.

You Can Also Help Us Publish Even More Research

We are currently in the process of submitting two new studies to top journals.

While I can’t release any details prior to publication, I can say that these studies examine complications associated with abortion compared to childbirth among over 450,000 women.

Yes, that’s nearly half a million women. This is a huge amount of data. And these first two studies are only the start of what we can investigate with this data.

But research of this magnitude is very expensive.

Can you help us continue it?

Every success we have had
is only because of generous people like you.

Your donation today is a way for you to be directly involved in some of the most important research being done today. Research that will help prevent countless unwanted, unsafe, and unnecessary abortions.

Time for Some More Bad News?

I’ve learned I shouldn’t completely ignore the insights of experienced fundraisers. So here’s some more bad news . . .

Even though we have just three employees and a budget of only $125,000 per year, we’re failures at raising even that small amount.

We have been running annual deficits because our donor list is just way too small. We’ve had only 380 donors in the last 12 months.

I can’t tell you how thankful we are to these donors. If you are one. thank you! From the bottom of my heart, thank you! (And please, give again today to renew your support!)

But if we ever hope to finally balance our budget and expand our research and education efforts, we need new donors.

If you have never donated before . . . why not? Please call or let us know. Tell us what more we can do to earn your support.

Or better yet, go get your checkbook right now. Send a donation today. Become part of our team, today. Together, we can make a difference.

Can you afford to make a single annual donation of $100, $200, $500, $1000, or even $5,000?

Or can you become one of our Sustaining Partners, donating $10, $20, or $50 per month, per quarter or twice a year?

Please be as generous as you can. And if you can’t donate, please pray that others can and will.

Sincerely yours for Life in Christ,

David C. Reardon, Ph.D.

Director
