Zachary's Dad: A Heartbroken and Heartbreaking Voice for Babies, Women, Men and Families Endangered by Abortion "Zachary was beautiful as his mother, loved by God and others. My little baby boy didn't make it to his Daddy's arms. I never got to hold and kiss him, tell him stories or read him rhymes. I love you Zachary and look forward to seeing you in heaven."
Editor's Note: In 2002, Zachary's 44-year-old father took his own life in front of the abortion clinic that took the life of his child. He published the above obituary before he died. The tragic story of Zachary and his father illustrate abortion's profound impact on men and so many others involved ... the loss of life, potential and, too often, hope.
"Fathers and mothers of aborted children struggle with how to grieve the loss of a person who disappeared from their lives." -Wayne Brauning, M. Div.
Men are involved in or affected by abortion in many direct and indirect ways. Abortion's heartbreak to individuals and families is significant and the need to educate the public and open the door to healing is pressing for many reasons.
Father's Day is especially hard for men and others affected by abortion. Please join our Father's Day Outreach and tell a friend - especially civic, church and group leaders who can involve their groups.
Further below, you'll find links to evidence-based resources regarding this issue from the Elliot Institute. This includes our men's page, and our Father's Day Outreach. (Father's Day is this Sunday, June, 19th.)
You can educate the public and transform the lives, hearts, minds and souls of people in your own circles simply by sharing the Father's Day ad or flyer.
Men, Abortion and Suicide
At this point, there are only a few studies examining the impact of abortion on men. Counselors who work with men after abortion say that men have reported a large number of problems that they claim were a direct result of their abortion experience.
As with women, the link between abortion and suicide may go unnoticed except in a few cases. A medical journal reported the case of an 18-year-old man who took his life three months after his father's death.
According to the article, the young man was despondent over his girlfriend's abortion. He had told a friend that the baby had been conceived the day his father died and he had planned to name the child after his father. read more
Proactive resources from the Elliot Institute Reach men and families in your own circles and educate the community, too. Regular or "co-op" Father's Day ads or flyers are available for you or your group to use and share. (Co-op versions like the one shown here, have a space to add details about local resources or events, or to include information about a sponsor.)
This is a great project for men's groups to do or sponsor. Tell a friend or leader about it.
Or consider having someone from a local men's group, counseling or outreach center, religious or civic group leader, pregnancy resource center or post-abortion healing group give a talk on this issue or share their own story. Promote the event with a co-op ad. To select the co-op version, click on the co-op link below each ad. (Learn more about how to use co-op ads on our co-op page.)
