Subject: New Year's Resolution: The Church Awareness Project

"Sometimes you need to lie to a patient
about things that they want to do or no ..."

-- Michigan doctor accused of forced abortion

"You're not God. You don't make other people's decisions."
-- What Caitlin, his accuser, wants to tell him

The quotes above reflect a quiet and heartbreaking epidemic. It's happening to women and families from all walks of life, faced with pressure, professional negligence or malpractice, and coercion to abort that comes from all sides.

The woman in this case -- Caitlin Bruce -- reports facing pressure from the doctor who admitted lying to patients and overt force when she changed her mind after seeing an ultrasound. The Michigan abortionist has reportedly been sued 23 times and accused of performing unwanted abortions and abortions leading to mothers' injury or death.

Charity Begins Close to Home

Unfortunately, unwanted abortions and the problem of experts -- including those in the helping professions -- deceiving patients or clients seeking help, are not isolated cases. Many individuals and families among us are at risk or already broken by abortion.

Compassionate education and outreach is urgent. One place where this is badly needed is in our churches. Churches should be at the forefront of defending the rights of women, families and unborn children, and offering compassion and support for those who are facing a difficult pregnancy or struggling after abortion.

One of our goals for 2011 is to motivate, empower and transform churches to be places of support, outreach and healing. Will you you make a New Year's resolution to join us in this effort in 2011 by joining the Church Awareness Project? (If you've already signed up, thank you!)

Featured Resource for Church Awareness Project: Portraits of Coercion

We'll be announcing special church awareness events and suggested activities in the coming year here and on our Church Awareness Project Blog. In the meantime, please use our resources to educate those in your church.

If you haven't already joined this effort, please do so! When you join the Church Awareness Project, you will receive a Church Leader's Kit full of educational materials to share with your pastor, leaders and others in your faith community or ministry.

The Church Leader's Kit includes a copy of Portraits of Coercion, which features facts about unwanted abortions and excerpts of quotes from women who've been there. These quotes are not intended to be "excuses" but rather to better educate the church and the public that coercing women into unwanted abortions in lieu of authentic support is a grave abuse of basic human rights.

This flyer has well-documented facts about unwanted or coerced abortions and other abuses and risks on the back, plus a link to www.TheUnChoice.com to learn more.

Please spread the word to others and ask them to join as well. We'd like to see hundreds, even thousands, of churches become a part of this effort!

Also, please remember to pray for those at risk of hurt by abortion and for the success of the Church Awareness Project!
