Subject: Emergency. You Help and Prayers Needed.
Dear Friends, During this last week we learned that the co-director of the Elliot Institute, Amy Sobie, my friend and colleague—and truly the work-horse of our ministry—has advanced stage ovarian cancer. Amy is undergoing surgery tomorrow morning, Friday, February 22nd. Please pray for her, her family and her surgical team. It is expected that about four to six weeks after the surgery, Amy will begin chemo treatments for about 18 weeks. Obviously, the road back to health will be a long, tough and tiring one. An added burden will be high health care costs that won't be covered by insurance. With only Amy and myself on payroll, the Elliot Institute is unable to provide health insurance. We both have personal, high deductible policies. The high deductible part means Amy will be on the hook for $12,000 to $20,000 of her medical expenses, out of pocket. With a sacrificial salary of just $34,800 per year, that's a prohibitive amount. We are partnering with Amy's family to promote a GoFundMe campaign to help with Amy's medical expenses. We would all be so grateful if you could supplement your prayers for Amy with financial support. Your gift towards Amy's medical care will be treated by the IRS as a gift to another person. She won't pay taxes on it. But it is not a tax deductible gift to the Elliot Institute. It is a gift to Amy Sobie, personally, managed through the GoFundMe platform. Please join me in both praying for Amy and giving a gift to help her through this medical crisis. Yours for Life in Christ, David C.
