Wisconsin Introduces Coerced Abortion Bill

Elliot Institute Calls for Protection of Women's Rights

A bill in Wisconsin has been introduced that would require abortion businesses to inform women that it is illegal for someone to coerce them into an abortion and to provide women who are victims of violence with access to services that can help them. The bill is an effort to protect the rights of women and prevent coerced and unwanted abortions, especially when there is a threat of violence.

A survey published in the Medical Science Monitor found that 64 percent of American women who had abortions reported feeling pressured to do so and that 84 percent reported receiving inadequate counseling beforehand. Women may also be victims of violence if they refuse to abort, as studies have found that homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant women and there have been cases in a number of states in which women were killed or physically attacked for refusing to abort.

The Elliot Institute has supported efforts to require abortion businesses to screen for coercion and to protect the rights of women who may be pressured, coreced, or forced into unwanted abortions -- including refusing to perform an unwanted abortion and to be help liable for the wrongful death of the unborn child and the trauma suffered by the woman if she is forced to undergo an unwanted abortion.

12 Ways to Help Spread the Unchoice Message

#10: Donate Books on Post-Abortion Issues to Your Local Libraries

If Americans knew the truth about unwanted, misinformed or forced abortions ... they would not push women to abort or deny them the opportunity to heal. Millions still suffer in the wake of a procedure that was never safe ... never just ... and never about free or fully informed choices.

Americans have been kept in the dark and many unwittingly push their daughters, wives, sisters or friends into unwanted and dangerous abortions. Meanwhile, countless women who have lived the abortion nightmare are resorting to despair or even suicide. It is urgent that we educate others about abortion's injustice and danger to everyone involved. With your help, we can stop others from pushing abortion in lieu of authentic choices and offer renewed hope and healing to women, men and families hurt by abortion.

Below is just one way you can help this important effort. To see the complete list of 12 Ways to Help, click here.

10. Donate books on post-abortion issues to your local libraries.

Make sure The Detrimental Effects of Abortion, Giving Sorrow Words, Forbidden Grief, Victims and Victors, and similar books and materials on post-abortion trauma and healing are available at your local high school, college, church, medical, and public libraries. This is one of the simplest and most effective things you, your church, or your local pro-life group can do.

Click here for a special offer for low-cost books - good until Oct. 31! For other ordering information, see www.unchoice.info/resources or call 1-888-412-2676.

6. Share materials with student-activists. Youth are most at risk for abortion!

It is urgent that we warn parents, teachers, counselors, teens, college students and others. As you read this, there are people contemplating abortion or even post-abortion suicide.  Let them know they are not alone and that positive, compassionate options are available. Share materials with youth groups and student organizations. Display materials in classrooms, libraries or elsewhere.

Share these resources with young pro-lifers who can spread the word at school events, in chat rooms, youth groups and elsewhere. Refer them to www.UnChoice.info for more information.
