Security is a critical factor when evaluating Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) software. To ensure security, quality software vendors undergo an assessment under the System and Organization Controls (SOC) protocol. The SOC report certifies an organization's effective management of security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy controls.

Many software vendors will try to convince you that the SOC report for their hosting services is sufficient. But the hosting services SOC report (e.g. AWS' SOC report) does not address the full scale of security for the actual software vendor.
