Over the years, Locus has migrated a lot of data for customers into Locus Software. In most instances, data are associated with a physical location (e.g., Facility, sample location, monitoring station, etc.), and the customers provide us with coordinates (typically latitude and longitude) for the locations.
Once migrated, one of the fastest and easiest ways to check your location data is to view it on a map. Most customers know their sites/facilities very well and know where the data were collected.
On a map, you can clearly “see” any issues and check the underlying data as well. If sites are missing, expand the map and see how many are in the wrong country or in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Without fail, those locations are missing a “-“ sign and end up across the globe from their correct location or have the wrong coordinate system.
In a few minutes, you can quickly identify the data issues and fix them yourself. In the process, you will also teach yourself the easy-to-use Locus GIS tools that will expand your data analysis tool kit.
