Subject: Who is your Valentine?

Dear Friends of Flamig Farm,

Hey, it's Valentine's Day.  We hope you have a special celebration, whether  your Valentine is a person, a special interest or a even a dream you hope will come true.  In this issue of EggsPress, Flamig Farm's newsletter,  we'd like to share more about our Valentine...her name is Mother Nature.

As we invite you to read more below, we send you hearts of friendship and hope you will visit us often when our season opens, April first.

Sincerely,
Farmers Julie, Pete and Nevin

And a HUGE PS...
In coming issues, Farmer Nevin will be sharing his next project to take the world a better place for us and future generations.  For now please join him with this thought, "Imagine a world where plastic is made from the amazing plant, hemp, and is strong, biodegradable and non polluting.  Let's create it sooner rather than later."
TO BE CONTINUED!

Let's love Mother Nature
Climate change, over population, vanishing wildlife, even endangered coffee (yes the plants that give us your favorite coffee beans are disappearing)...these are things that need our love and attention. Did you know that by the year 2050, there will be more plastic than fish (by weight) in the oceans? Depressing stuff. But at Flamig Farm, we believe in positive possibilities, so here are  some ideas about Valentines for Mother Nature.

                        Let's precycle and recycle!
PRECYCLE
The greenest product is the one you don't by.  But since we can't live on air alone, we need to make informed choices.  One way to do that is to buy products that will cause less waste, and precycling does just that.  Here are three ideas:

1) Take reusable bags to the grocery store and skip the paper and plastic bags altogether.

2) Let's not put all those empty, gooey toothpaste tubes in landfills. Check out bitetoothpastbits.com, and you probably give up 'the tube' because you'll learn about a healthier, more convenient and environmentally-friendly way to brush.

3) So many magazines and newspapers are now online. While it takes electricity to view them there, the amount of energy involved is less than the paper based product, plus there’s nothing to throw out once you’re done reading.  Make the Internet part of your paper reduction diet!
RECYCLE
Here are the guidelines from one valley refuse company (Paines, Inc.)  If you follow them (or those of your pick up service), your recycling will be the best it can be.
Glass Bottles & Jars
Glass food containers only. All colors. Clean, empty and discard lids. There is no need to remove labels.
Metal & Aluminum Cans
Food and beverage containers only. Clean, empty and do not flatten. There is no need to remove labels.

Clean (rinsed Juice Boxes & Milk Cartons
Larger Plastic Items Like Kids Toys, Coolers & Buckets

No Plastic Bags Please. You can take plastic bags to some grocery stores, and place in Plastic Bag Recycling containers.
Speaking of special Valentines...
Your kids will love the three summer camp experiences we offer.  Beginning in June, they are Adventure Camp, Fun on the Farm and Toddlers on the Farm.

  • 2 and 3 year-olds attend with a caregiver for a morning of Farm fun. Each session includes some craft and activity time, a circle with story and songs, a visit with one of our animals and a pony or hayride. Admission to the petting zoo is included so you can enjoy the farm more before or after your session.
  • 4 and 5 year olds have a fabulous time exploring the Farm more in depth as we focus on a different animal each week. Our time together will include a craft or activity, Farm chore, visit with the animals, story and song time and lots of fun! Children may attend without a caregiver, but caregivers are welcome.
  • For 5 and 6 year olds (Lil Farmers) and kids 7-13 Adventure Camp is a unique and rare experience that introduces them to what a farm is all about.  Can you imagine life a generation or two ago when almost everyone had the opportunity to experience farm life either daily by living on a farm or spending time on Grandma and Grandpa's or Auntie and Uncle's farm during the summer?  That world is alive an well at Flamig Farm Summer Adventure Camp!
Programs are filling even faster than last year so don't procrastinate.
You don't want to disappoint a family Valentine.
Farmers Julie and Nevin wish to introduce you to Moose and Jake!
These two gentle giants in the photo below are looking forward to taking you on a hayride this year.  They are a gorgeous, friendly team, and will give you a guided tour of open fields and cool woods, all with an amazing view of The Heublein Tower.  Now that's all something to welcome come spring, summer and fall!

And the horses want you to know, they would love to pose with you for a picture  See what hams they are?!
